‘Dependable rock on my side’, Raila mourns his aide and bodyguard
Raila, who admitted that he will miss Odour, revealed that the late has been with his family since the 80s when his father was still alive before transitioning to being his aide.
Former Prime Minister Raila Odinga has eulogised his long-term aide and bodyguard, George Odour, as a vigilant, calm, confident, and extremely professional assistant dedicated to duty and a dependable rock on his side through tumultuous periods over the years.
Raila, who admitted that he will miss Odour, revealed that the late has been with his family since the 80s when his father was still alive before transitioning to being his aide.
“George has been a part of Jaramogi’s and my family since the late 80s. We have stood, fallen, and risen together. He has been a vigilant, calm, confident, and extremely professional aide dedicated to duty and a dependable rock on my side all these years through tumultuous periods. I will miss George, and I am sorry to the myriad friends who miss him already,” Raila stated in his eulogy.
He passed his condolences to the family of Oduor as he wished them strength even as they come to terms with his passing away.
ODM leaders, led by Siaya Senator James Orengo, mourned Oduor as a loyal and dedicated protector of Raila who has served him for more than three decades.
“A humble gentleman has departed. Today, I mourn a true friend, a trusted aide and soldier to Raila. For more than three decades, George Oduor has been a partner and comrade in the struggle; he has journeyed with us through the good and bad,” Orengo stated.
Orengo gave accolades to the departed aide for tolerating the fuss that came with being around politics, always sober and never losing his mind, adding that he was the true gentleman of VIP protection.
Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna praised Oduor for his steadfast dedication as he thanked him for guiding him on how to be around the ODM leader.
According to Sifuna, being a bodyguard to Raila is the toughest job considering the landscape of Kenyan politics.
“Being Baba’s bodyguard is easily the toughest job in Kenyan politics. George Oduor did it with quiet grace and steadfast dedication. Back when I was new in Mzee’s circles, I would never have gotten the hang of things were it not for George’s guidance,” the senator stated.
Nairobi Women Member of Parliament Esther Passaris added that the legacy and dedication of George shall never be forgotten.
“My deepest condolences to the family and friends of George, a loyal and dedicated protector who served as a bodyguard to both Baba and his father, the late Jaramogi Oginga Odinga, with unwavering commitment. His legacy of loyalty and dedication will not be forgotten,” she stated.
Oduor passed away yesterday evening while receiving treatment at the Nairobi West Hospital.
He has been a key figure in the political engagement of Raila, as he was always seen behind him.
The former military man first served as the aide for Jaramogi Oginga in the 80s before transitioning to Raila’s aide and bodyguard after his passing.
