Defence CS dismisses Raila’s remarks on saving Ruto from millitary coup

Defence Cabinet Secretary Soipan Tuya has dismissed claims by ODM Party leader Raila Odinga that he saved President William Ruto from a Military Coup in June and July last year during the Gen Z protests.

The CS stated that the reports that were aired over the weekend were baseless and unfunded as he termed them false and misleading.

“The article cites an undisclosed source alleging that former Raila Odinga, in an exclusive interview, claimed he prevented a military coup against President Ruto. The ministry categorically states that the claims in the newspaper articles are false, baseless, unfounded, misleading, and indeed reckless,” She said in a statement.

CS Tuya defended the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) saying they are committed to integrity and service to the nation.

She affirmed the loyalty of KDF to the head of state saying they are free of political influence.

“KDF is a professional and apolitical institution committed to the highest standards of integrity, discipline, and service to the nation. The institution remains unwavering in its loyalty to the Commander-in-Chief and its duty to safeguard the security and well-being of Kenya and her people,” she affirmed.

Over the weekend, Raila’s allies and other leaders supporting the broad-based government shared mixed reactions to the report by the dailies.

The supporters of the former Prime Minister claimed that the journalist had drawn their report from Raila’s Friday speech even though writer affirmed to had sat with him in a private interview at his Karen home.

ODM Communication Director Philip Etale was among who claimed the papers had quoted Raila’s Friday speech was forced to pull down his post after a section of Kenyans reminded him that the weekly had not quoted Raila from his speech at the funeral but from an exclusive interview that they had with him.
