Mother, friend arrested for allegedly killing four-year-old son for soiling himself

Detectives in Nairobi have launched investigations into the death of a four-year-old boy who is suspected to have been killed by his mother and her friend.

The DCI stated that the suspect identified as Melvin Owour together with her friend was sent by a mortician at the Mama Lucy Hospital mortuary to report the death of the minor at a police station before getting back to the morgue.
However, the two never reported the incident to the police nor returned to the morgue to pick up the body for burial which raised an alarm.
The mortician reported to Mowlem Police Station that the two had brought a dead minor to the hospital and switched off their phones.
“The suspect-Melvin Owuor (mother to the deceased) while in the company of her friend is reported to have taken the lifeless body of the child to Mama Lucy Hospital mortuary on December 9, 2024, but failed to return after reporting the incident to the police as guided by the morgue officials,” the DCI said in a statement.
”Melvin and her friend switched off their phones, raising suspicion that led the facility mortician to report the incident at Mowlem police station,” they added.
Detectives from Dandora in collaboration with their colleagues from the Crime Research and Intelligence Bureau (CRIB) units swung into action and after investigating the case established the shocking details of the last moments of the minor.
Whereas Owuor initially claimed that the child died while asleep, the detectives found that the minor had succumbed to injuries inflicted by his mother after the boy had reportedly soiled himself while answering the call of nature.
It was then that it was established Melvin was the mother of the deceased, adding a darker layer to the evidence they had already gathered.
The two are in police custody as the detectives continue to piece together the details to unravel the full story behind the child’s tragic death.
”The pursuit of justice continues as we work tirelessly to understand the truth and hold those responsible accountable for their actions,” the sleuths stated.
