Zablon Katana Kahindi is the newest millionaire in town after landing a staggering Ksh 15 million windfall after staking just Ksh 15 in the Betika Midweek Jackpot.
Also known as Beja, the 32-year-old , who irons garments at a local apparel factory in Mombasa, hails from Ganze Village in Kilifi County. The winner could not hide his joy as he recounted how his life took a dramatic turn on the evening of Friday, April 11 when he placed his winning bet after a long day at work—alone and hopeful.
“I started playing Aviator last year, but it’s my fiancée, Vicky, who encouraged me to try the Midweek Jackpot,” Katana shared.
“She told me her friends had won before, and although my first attempt was disappointing, I told myself I would try again—but with discipline. I never spend more than Ksh 15 a day.”
His wife Vicky, a junior school teacher, stood proudly by his side as Katana received the life-changing call from Betika. The couple, who are now engaged, say the win is a blessing they never saw coming.
With tears of joy in his eyes, Katana outlined his plans for the future.
“First, I want to build a better house for my parents. Then, I’ll buy a plot and put up rental houses to create long-term income. But the dream that has always burned in me is going back to school. I got a C+ in high school but could not afford university fees. Now I can finally pursue my education.”
