The Drought Response Committee headed by Safaricom Chief Executive Officer Peter Ndegwa has finally released Paybill Account details that will aide mobilise funds drive towards the hunger kitty across the county.
The donations both in cash and in kind will be channeled towards helping the over 6million Kenyans facing starvation nationally.
“Donations to the appeal fund can do so via: M-Pesa PayBill 880990 Use Your Name as the account number or National Drought Mitigation Appeal Fund Kenya Commercial Bank, Riverside Branch, ACC. NO. 1305486137.” The notice reads in part.
The committee was officially inaugurated and is domiciled under the Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua’s office.
According to Gachagua, “the PayBill number applies to Safaricom’s M-pesa, Airtel Money, and Telkom’s T-Kash subscribers. We thank Kenyans and all our friends for their continued support towards this course.”
Gachagua had appealed to Kenyans of goodwill to contribute a percentage of their salaries as a way to help in the nation’s drought relief efforts.
Speaking during the launch of the national steering committee on drought response Gachagua pleaded with Kenyans and other stakeholders to offer support them in protecting the lives of those affected.
Gachagua noted that many people have entirely lost their livelihoods and coping mechanisms and are dependent significantly on assistance to meet their basic requirements.
The protracted drought is a clear representation of the effects of global warming and climate change.
He stated that they will provide a paybill number for the Kenyans to channel their contributions to help aid in the process of rescuing those affected by the drought.
“We appeal to Kenyans of goodwill to contribute a percentage of their salaries to a Paybill Number we shall be publishing soon,” he said.
