Pupils at Komarock Primary School in Embakasi, Nairobi will be treated to an early celebration before national exams results are out after Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua offered to donate Sh300,000 for their farewell party after completing their exams tomorrow.
The DP promised the elated pupils that he will finance their feasting when he visited the school today morning to monitor the progress of the ongoing Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) and the Kenya Primary School Education Assessment (KPSEA) examinations.
“After you are through with your exams, I will give the head teacher 300,000 shillings so that after the exams you can come and have a bash to say farewell.” The DP told the pupils who were gathered at a parade today morning.
“We are here to wish you well and to encourage you. What you are doing today is what we went through many years back. An exam is just that, an exam.” He added.
He further promised an additional Sh100,000 donation to the school’s 32 teachers for what he said was a good job in preparing the students.
“We will also not leave the teachers behind, they have also done a very good job. I will leave 100,000 for them so that they too can celebrate a bit.” said Gachagua.
In what seemed to be a perfect replicated script of the country’s second president the late Daniel Arap Moi, Gachagua, who served as a District Officer during the Kanu regime seems to be embracing school donations and harambees in schools and churches.
The late president Moi is fondly remembered on school milk feeding programme dubbed ‘Maziwa Ya Nyayo.’
KCPE and KPSEA exams entered their second day on Tuesday. Over 2.5 million candidates across Kenya are sitting their Grade Six and Class Eight exams.
Of the 2, 531, 785 candidates, 1,244, 188 are taking their KCPE exams while 1, 287,597 are sitting the maiden KPSEA exams since the implementation of the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC).
