Moses Wetangula has announced that he will resign his post as Bungoma Senator in order to take up the high-ranking slot he has been nominated for in the Kenya Kwanza Alliance.
Wetangula who successfully retained his senatorial position in the just concluded election has defended his move stating that he will be appointed the Speaker of the National Assembly, asserting that the role would make him the third most powerful leader in the country after President-elect William Ruto and his deputy Rigathi Gachagua.
“I am going to be the third in command in the country. I pray to God that he gives me the wisdom to lead the National Assembly and coordinate well with the Senate,” he said in an address to the press.
“We will bring good laws to this country, advocate for pro-people budgets and ensure that Kenya will never be the same again,” Wetangula added.
In the Kenya Kwanza Alliance agreement, all party leaders in the coalition were promised high positions in government.
Musalia Mudavadi, party leader of the Amani National Congress (ANC) was nominated for the Chief Cabinet Secretary role.
Alfred Mutua of Maendeleo Chap Chap, Justin Muturi of Democratic Party, Chama cha Mashinani’s Isaac Ruto, and PAA party leader Amason Kingi were also similarly assured of influential dockets in government if the Kenya Kwanza leadership takes over from the outgoing Jubilee government.
