A multi-agency team conducting a security operation in Marsabit county have today recovered two assortments of weapons and ammunition.
During the operation, two Carbine riffles together with eight rounds of ammunition were recovered.
They were handed over by Qirta area chief Kosi Halake and his assistant chief Wako Abduba in support of the ongoing disarmament process in Marsabit Central Sub-County.
“Earlier today, a section of officers under the Marsabit multi-agency security operations led by the Deputy Operations Commander, Peter Masai registered an early catch after visiting Gar-Qarsa Sub-Location, Qirta Korma Location in Marsabit Central Sub-County,” stated National Police Service.
Masai assured the administrators that the government through security agencies will continue to offer security to all residents and their property.
According to police service, tens of guns have so far been surrendered.
The National Police Service launched the ‘Rudisha Amani Marsabit’ operation, following a streak of indiscriminate attacks by bandits on the public.
NPS said that the curfew imposed in the County remains in place.
On May 2, Interior CS Fred Matiang’i imposed a 30-day curfew to help enhance the disarmament exercise in the county.
“Effective from 6 pm on May 2, we have placed Marsabit County under curfew to be followed by an operation to rid of illegal guns causing havoc there. Leaders in the area are urged to cooperate,” Matiang’i directed.
