Young professionals in the Seventh Day Adventist church in the country have criticised the Government over the recent abduction of youths by alleged police officers.
The youth, who spoke following the disappearance of a youth from their church, have made it clear that they will not be threatened for not supporting the government amid continued criticism of the Kenya Kwanza government.
Addressing the press outside Kikuyu Central SDA Church, they called for the freeing of the remaining two youths whose whereabouts remain unknown.
They called for the disbandment of the police group that is being used to abduct and threaten the youths across the country.
“We demand the immediate and unconditional release of all that remain abducted. The government must respect court orders and bring to an end the cases of enforced disappearances,” Ephraim Wainaina, one of the professionals, said.
They called on the government and political leaders to stop bringing their politics into the matter and instead look into the matters being raised by the youths.
“As leaders abide by the law even as you call us to do the same. Anyone who has been arrested within 24 hours should be presented in a court of law. There is nothing to be thankful for about the release of the four youths. We need the remaining two to be left free also,” Peter Emmanuel stated.
The wave of abductions targeting government critics in recent months has been condemned both locally and internationally.
While President William Ruto has vowed to end the abductions, Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja insists his officers are not behind them.
Five of those abducted last month resurfaced yesterday with the fate of the sixth one, Steve Mbisi, still unknown.
