Two people charged with stealing goods worth Sh130 million from Naivas Supermarket in Nyeri

They were released the two on a cash bail of Sh70,000 or an alternative bond of Sh200,000

Two suspects have been charged with four counts related to the June 25 protests in Nyeri town, held as part of the Gen Z-led demonstrations marking the first anniversary of those killed in the 2024 anti-Finance Bill protests.

Judy King’ori and Zipporah Njeri appeared on Wednesday before Nyeri Chief Magistrate Mary Makena, where they faced charges of participating in an unlawful assembly, shop-breaking and stealing, and two counts of malicious damage to property.

The prosecution told the court that on the day of the protests, the two—alongside others not before the court—unlawfully participated in a demonstration during which they allegedly broke into Naivas Supermarket in Nyeri town and stole goods valued at Sh130 million.

They were also accused of vandalising windowpanes at the Nyeri Central Police Station, property belonging to the National Police Service (NPS), and damaging a Toyota Corolla vehicle assigned to the Nyeri Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI).

Chief Magistrate Makena released the two on a cash bail of Sh70,000 or an alternative bond of Sh200,000.

The case will be mentioned on July 23.
