Two former Kenya Pipeline employees jailed for nine years for stealing fuel

The two were sentenced alongside Joseph Mbugua Maina, a truck driver, who was sentenced to pay a fine of Ksh 5.3 million or serve seven years imprisonment

Two former Kenya Pipeline Company (KPC) employees have been sentenced to pay a fine of Ksh 10 million each or serve nine years imprisonment for various offences relating to theft of petroleum products.

Reuben Andolo Aseneka, a former loading Island operator and Mutai Micah, a former ICT employee, were found guilty of conspiracy to commit a felony, theft of petroleum products, illegally tampering with the KPC fuel monitoring systems (Fuelfacs and Acculoads), unauthorised access to KPC’s computer systems, specifically the Fuelfacs systems.

The two were sentenced alongside Joseph Mbugua Maina, a truck driver, who was sentenced to pay a fine of Ksh 5.3 million or serve seven years imprisonment.

The three were sentenced to one year imprisonment or pay a fine of Ksh 100,000 each for the offence of conspiracy to commit a felony.

They conspired to steal the MSP, which had been loaded onto a road tanker (Reg. No. KBJ 564D/ZD 1453).

The court further sentenced all accused persons to serve another one-year imprisonment or pay a fine of Ksh 200,000 each for theft of petroleum products.

Aseneka and Mutai were both sentenced to pay a fine of Ksh 10 million each or serve five years imprisonment for illegally tampering with the KPC fuel monitoring systems.

They were also sentenced to serve two years imprisonment or pay a fine of Ksh 200,000 each for unauthorized access to KPC’s computer systems, specifically the Fuelfacs systems.

Separately, Mbugua was fined Ksh 5 million or serve five years imprisonment.

The case was prosecuted by Senior Assistant Director of Public Prosecutions Catherine Mwaniki, Patrick Okango and Shitsama Ligami.
