The Speaker of the National Assembly, Justin Muturi is seeking to alter the calendar of the National Assembly by a week.
Muturi justified that the extension is vital for the National Assembly and it will ensure that Parliament is working in co-operation with the Senate to achieve the set goals.
He further insisted that the National Assembly cannot adjourn its sittings indefinitely since it plays a critical role of lawmaking.
“I have proposed that we extend the National Assembly Calendar by a week, the quorum hitches notwithstanding, so that the two Houses can adjourn its sitting at the same time,” stated Muturi.
The adjustment of the calendar is subject to approval by the members of the National Assembly.
If approved the House will adjourn indefinitely on June16, 2022 rather than June10, 2022 just one month to the polls.
Muturi was speaking in Mombasa during a media engagement workshop.
