A Somali national suspected to be behind the murder of four women in Nairobi last year will remain in custody until February 11 when the High Court in Kibera will determine whether he will be released on bail.
During a virtual hearing today, Hashim Dagane Muhumed alias Hashim Mohamed Khalif denied the charges of murdering Dahab Daud Said alias Waris , whose body was found in the Kyumbi area in Machakos County on the night of October 21, last year, Amina Abdirashid Dhahir and Musayba Abdi Mohamed, both of whom were killed in Parklands area of Nairobi on the same day.
The suspect was also charged with the murder of Ndeka Abdi Noor Gorane at a short-stay rental apartment in Lavington estate, Nairobi between October 29 and 31 last year.
“On the night of October 29 and October 30, 2024 at the Valley Heights Apartment, Lavington area within Nairobi County, murdered Deka Abdo Noor Gorane,” read part of the charge sheet.
The deceased, the last to be allegedly killed by the accused in the series of murders, had been reported missing at the California police station in Eastleigh before her boiled bones and skeleton were found dumped at the Langata cemetery on November 1 last year.
It was established that she had lived with the suspect for a week before he allegedly murdered her.
The deceased had gone missing after she left her family to live with the suspect who was on the run after he allegedly killed the three others.
Hashim, who appeared virtually from the Nairobi Area Remand and Allocation Prison, denied the charges before Justice Kanyi Kimondo of the High Court in Nairobi.
The suspect remains a pre-trial remandee in the detention facility. He pleaded for lenient bail and bond terms through his lawyer.
The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI’s) Homicides Unit established that Hashim is a Somali national identified as Hashim Mohamed Khalif according to his passport but had fraudulently acquired registration as a Kenyan.
Senior Prosecution Counsel Millicent Kiringia said the prosecution is opposing the bail and bond terms for the suspect but an affidavit will be filed later.
The head of Homicides Unit at the DCI Martin Nyunguto and his team will prepare an affidavit containing the reasons on which the suspect should be denied bail and bond terms before the same is filed in court by the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP).
Justice Kimondo ordered the ODPP to file the affidavit in seven days from January 21 and Hashim must respond to the application thereafter but before February 11 when the matter will be mentioned before the trial judge.
Taxi driver Jared Mongare who had been arrested in connection to the murder of Ndeka, was discharged without charges but his car will be detained at the DCI headquarters as an exhibit in the case.
