Afro-Indie and soul singer Njerae is releasing her much-awaited Extended Play (EP) titled Four Letter Word on Valentine’s Day. She shared that the release perfectly syncs with the month of love, giving her fans earworms to include in their playlists as they celebrate love.

Njerae’s new project comes shortly after she was absorbed into Apple Music’s Africa Rising stars class of 2025 to represent Kenya and East Africa. On Four Letter Word, the artiste explores the human love experience as a whole.

The EP has four tracks, Fight For You (produced by Wondamagik), Beg For It (produced by Kobby Worldwide), Decide (produced by Vic West) and Hypnotize (produced by Kobby Worldwide).

The singer, songwriter and producer released Beg For It on January 17, 2025, as a teaser to what is to the EP, which peaked at Number 36 on Apple Music Top 100 Kenya. The jam has since become a favourite Kenyan sing-along song, with fans seamlessly jamming to it in different event spaces where Njerae has performed it.

This has become a norm as Njerae’s music continues to resonate with many lovers, lovers-to-be, and those on the sidelines too. Her music explores the emotions that one has when they are in love with someone else.

“I wanted to create a body of work that not only talked about intimate love, but also the whole experience, from love to lust, obsession and social interactions,” Njerae says, adding that sonically, she experimented so much in previous years when she worked on her earlier projects —there is a stark difference between her 2024 EP Out With The Old and Four Letter Word.

With the new EP, she is getting back to her original version while blending artistic abilities of the three producers who worked on the EP with her.

“In this project, I am going back to my roots, writing songs that are following my original style. This music is a fusion of what I have learned experimenting over the years working with different artists and producers with my original style,” she says.

The EP is Njerae’s first body of work in 2025, from which the single Beg For It was born. The Aki Sioni hitmaker has also teased the music video for Beg For It dropping on Valentine’s Day, with a line-up of other projects and live performances throughout the year.

Njerae’s music identifies as Afro-Indie with a touch of R&B and soul. She has played at Folk Fusion, Jamhuri Jam Sessions, Gig Dynamics Open House, Blankets and Wine, Raha Fest, Nairobi Street Food Fest, Cheche Sessions, and a number of her own curated events.

The creative, a graduate in psychology, hopes to one day open a counseling center where music will be used as a form of therapy. She has also equipped herself with the skills in live music performance and being a music entrepreneur as a graduate of Perform music incubator.

Through her 2022 album, Unintentional, she allowed her fans to interpret it as a girl’s handbook when going through a break-up which allowed more female fans to relate with her.

Taking a more significant step toward modern R&B and contemporary Afro-pop sounds, Njerae was able to release her single OTD and Valhalla in 2023, opening huge doors for her in the music business.
