Kesogon, Chesamis crowned National Volleyball champions
Kesogon Mixed Senior School and Chesamis Boys emerged as the new Kenya Secondary Schools Sports Association (KSSSA) national volleyball champions after impressive victories at the championships in Thika.
Kesogon secured their third girls’ national title after sweeping regular finalists Soweto Academy 3-0 (25-13, 25-10, 25-18) at MPESA Foundation Academy on Thursday, August 6, 2026.
The victory adds to Kesogon’s previous national titles and underlines their growing dominance in schoolgirls’ volleyball.
Coach John Marani praised his players for executing their game plan.
“It was a good game. The girls played as per our instructions. Soweto are a good team, but we were tactically better and exploited their weaknesses,” Marani said.
He added that the team’s focus now shifts to the Federation of East Africa Schools Sports Association (FEASSA) Games.
Kesogon eliminated seven-time champions Kwanthanze Girls 3-0 (25-21, 25-11, 25-19) in the semi-finals, while Soweto defeated St Martha’s Mwitoti 3-1 (17-15, 25-16, 25-20, 25-21). Mwitoti claimed bronze after beating Kwanthanze 3-1.
In the boys’ final, Chesamis defeated AIC Chepsaita 3-1 (25-23, 14-25, 23-23, 25-18) to lift the national crown. Both finalists qualified for the FEASSA Games, scheduled for August 12-23 in Morogoro, Tanzania.
Chepsaita beat Matiliku 3-0 in the semis, while Chesamis dispatched Masara Mixed 3-0, with MP Dan Wanyama backing the champions.
Andersen Mixed Senior School claimed their maiden national netball title after defeating St Monica Bukokholo 49-37. Andersen led 28-20 at halftime, while Kaya Tiwi finished third after beating Kinale Girls 57-17.
Coach Charles Omega credited hard work and dedication for the breakthrough, noting the team qualified second from its group. He singled out goal defender Mary Chemtail, scorer Leah Chepkoech and centre Pauline Chelimo for key contributions.
Bukokholo coach Mary Walubengo accepted defeat, saying an injury to key player Naomi Wanyonyi affected her side.
In inaugural beach volleyball, Kosirai Girls and Cheptil Boys won the titles at Mang’u High School. Cheptil beat Sang’alo 2-0, while Kosirai defeated Bishop Sulumeti 2-0.
