Nyeri Senator demands apology from Gachagua for allegedly defaming him
According to Wamatinga, he voted in support of the impeachment motion based on the evidence that was brought before the Senate
Nyeri senator Wahome Wamatinga has demanded a public apology from the former deputy president Rigathi Gachagua over defamation claims.
The senator, who spoke to the media today said Rigathi has accused him of receiving Ksh 10million from president William Ruto during the impeachment motion.
Separately, through city lawyer Wycliffe Nyambuto, Wamatinga says the defamatory statement by Gachagua at a function at Machakos has ruined his reputation including affecting his business.
Wamatinga insists that he is a family man and since the statement was made by the former deputy president, his businesses have been heavily affected with other people from the region portraying him a corrupt leader.
According to the Nyeri senator, he voted in support of the impeachment motion based on the evidence that was brought before the Senate.
Lawyer Nyambuto says that Gachagua has until Monday to respond, failing to which he will institute a legal battle against the former deputy president.
Last weekend in a function in Machakos county, Gachagua told the public that he was betrayed by the Nyeri senator, who he referred to as his own brother, claiming he received Ksh 10 million from the government to impeach him.
Nyambuto says the words were duly captured electronically and have been widely circulated in the mainstream media and in various social media outlets, a trend he adds continues given the former DP’s significant online following.
