NMS fate to be determined by Sakaja’s government

The Public Service Commission (PSC) has stated that Nairobi Metropolitan Services (NMS) duties will be transferred to City Hall if the deed of transfer is not renewed once it expires in October.

Speaking at a press conference yesterday, PSC chairman Anthony Muchiri, noted that it would be up to the new administration to decide whether to continue with the agreement or not.

“If the incoming county administration is non-desirous of continuing with the contract, then the Public Service Commission will be ready and willing to deed back all the services to the county government of Nairobi,” he stated.

After being formally inaugurated, President-elect William Ruto will determine if he will assume the Chief Administrative Secretaries (CAS) positions, according to Muchiri.

“These positions will be deliberated on between the Public Service Commission and the incoming administration, and if they deem fit that these positions should remain, then they will engage the commission, and we will come to an understanding on these positions,” he said.

Muchiri added that the commission created nine guidelines that will help direct the selection and installation of key officials.

Principal secretaries, Cabinet Secretaries, directors, and parastatal chiefs are among the representatives.

The emphasis of the papers is on the qualities and moral principles that will govern the recruiting procedures and the organisational framework of the future administration.

According to Muchiri, the current government institutions have been analysed to see if they are still necessary or if the next administration should eliminate or change them.

For instance, the committee chairman stated that the CAS’s job would be decided on by the future president.

“We are an independent commission and what we do is subject to adoption by the new president,” he said.

Muchiri said his commission is prepared to set up in accordance with the applicable laws and the constitution if the incoming president decides to keep the positions or establish new one.
