NHIF employee Lilian Waithera died from shooting along Kaunda Street in Nairobi, autopsy report shows
An autopsy examination on the body of the National Hospital Insurance Fund (NHIF) female staff who collapsed and died on Monday evening while walking alongside her colleague along Kaunda Street in Nairobi’s Central Business District (CBD) was as a result of a homicide case, the report shows.
The post mortem report revealed that the 46-year-old Lilian Waithera was shot from an elevated angle and bullet lodged in her lungs.
According to preliminary police findings, she complained of sharp pain in the chest before collapsing as blood oozed from her mouth.
“The cause of death was as a result of shooting incident after a bullet was found lodged in the lungs of the deceased,” the report reads in part.
The killer bullet is said to have perforated and entered through the collar bone.
A bullet head recovered at the scene of the incident has already been submitted for ballistic analysis.
Officers attached to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations, Homicides Unit and their Central Police Station have already initiated an inquest.
The motive of the apparent execution is yet to be established.
Waithera was shot alongside her colleague while walking to the City center from their NHIF head office in Upper Hill, Nairobi.
Her body was first booked at the Nairobi Hospital mortuary before being transferred to the Kenyatta University Hospital mortuary.
