Mandera on the spot over supplementary budget fund
Mandera is on the spot for its decision to allocate funds to other projects in the county while overlooking the effects of drought in the county, considering that a huge population stares at starvation.
Meanwhile, a resident in the county has sued the county government, asking the courts to stop the county from working on non-essential projects such as renovation and expansion of a primary school and instead focus on projects that address the immediate concerns of Mandera people.
Ismail Abdullahi adds that during his supplementary Budget, the county government ignored the major crisis, which is the current drought and instead focused on other issues.
Mandera County government seeks Sh 22 million in the supplementary budget allocation to fund the development project.
The county assembly members passed the Budget on February 14, 2022.
Abdillahi asked Justice Abida Ali-Aroni to temporary stop the disbursement of the funds. He has also sued the Mandera County government, its MCAs, Governor Ali Roba and the Finance executive, respectively.
Meanwhile, Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission, controller of Budget and the national Treasury have been enjoined in the suit as interested parties.
