Kirinyaga governor Anne Waiguru call for dialogue on two-thirds gender rule
Kirinyaga governor Ann Waiguru has appealed to stakeholders to ensure that talks around the two-thirds gender rule are discussed and put to rest fairly.
Waiguru warned that should the dialogue fail to meet the desired attention it deserves, then women would be forced to gun up support for an equal gender share of 50-50 percent representation.
“We are calling for the implementation of two thirds gender rule failure to which might see women shift focus to a 50 – 50 equal share,” Waiguru said.
She exuded confidence in the progress demonstrated by women even as she condemned the barriers they face more so online while expressing themselves or passing a message across.
“I support the campaign to Stop Cyber Bullies Online against Women,” stated Waiguru.
Lobbyists led by Dr. Jennifer Riria and Sarah Muhoya while marking the day themed “Digitalall: Innovation and Technology for gender equality pointed out online users who have been constantly demeaning women as they officially launched Echo Network Africa (ENA) stop cyber bullies now campaign.
“A meaningful conversation on the steps to protect our interactions on the digital space and make it a safe space for women,” said Riria.
The lobby group reiterated that affordability and online illiteracy are major factors affecting women and require urgent addressing insisting that cyber bullies have no place in the society.
During the event, Waiguru was awarded the ‘Women’s Leadership Award’ while journalist Lynn Ngugi was presented the brand ambassadorial role as a result of her efforts in content creation and exemplary stories on Gender Based Violence (GBV).
The lobbyists also celebrated 60 years of a fruitful cooperation between Kenya and Germany.
ENA is a woman led serving development institution that empowers, positions and advocates for Women, Youth and Persons with Disabilities (PWDs).
