The National Police Service (NPS) has guaranteed tight security for students as they return to school.
Through a statement, NPS said it has taken no chances and that its traffic police are continuing to step up their patrols and observation on the roads.
Following a two-week recess for the General Election held on Tuesday, schools across the country have reopened today.
“NPS has left nothing to chance and our traffic officers continue to intensify patrols and surveillance on the roads.
As schools enter the re-opening day today after the midterm break, we wish to assure the public of their safety and that of their children as they travel on public roads across the country,” reads the statement further.
Education Cabinet Secretary (CS) George Magoha had suspended the re-opening of all Basic Education Institutions following the delay in announcement of presidential results.
In his earlier directive, the CS has directed the schools to re-open on Monday, August 15, 2022 but revised that date to Thursday, August 18, 2022.
Through a statement, Magoha said the decision was made following the conduct of the national elections on Tuesday, August 9, 2022 and the process of tallying ballots is still ongoing.
“Therefore, following further consultations I, hereby, convey the government’s decision on the suspension of re-opening of all basic education Institutions,” he added.
Earlier, Magoha had ordered the early closure of all basic Institutions on August 1, 2022 in preparation for the elections.
The communication issued today supersedes any earlier communications on the re-opening of all basic institutions.
