The Pamoja African Alliance (PAA) and the Jubilee Party have inked a co-operation agreement.
PAA party chairman Amason Kingi stated in a statement that the cooperation is a step toward quest to bring the coast region to the national political bargaining table.
It is, however, anticipated that there will be a rival between Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho who is of the deputy party leaders in Orange Democratic Movement (ODM). Kingi is expected to intensify in the coming weeks as the two parties field candidates in each elective position.
“The objective of the co-operation agreement that PAA has signed today is to pave way for a structured dialogue process leading to the signing of a pre-election agreement.
The co-operation agreement has therefore granted PAA an opportunity to take to the national negotiating table the three main issues that PAA advocates,” read the statement.
PAA pushes for a resolution to the long-standing land dispute along the coast, the revitalisation of the coastal economy, and national government inclusivity.
PAA said last week that ODM leader Raila Odinga had left it out of the Azimio la Umoja Coast tour rallies.
Through a deal with the Jubilee Party, PAA will now join Azimio la Umoja.
ODM has three aspirants for the governor’s seat in Kilifi former Devolution Chief Administrative Secretary Gideon Munga’ro Deputy Governor Gideon Saburi and county Assembly Speaker Jimmy Kahindi.
Similarly, the Democratic Action Party of (DAP-K) is making inroads in Western Kenya two months after it was formed.
DAP-K formed pact with jubilee rather than with ODM besides western being ODM stronghold.
For the last one month, the party has received defectors from Ford Kenya and ANC in what is widely seen to have dented the two outfits.
ANC MPs led by Ayub Savula (Lugari), Peter Nabulindo (Matungu), Oku Kaunya (Teso North) and several ward reps have defected to DAP-K.
Former National Assembly Speaker Kenneth Marende, who had joined ANC, also defected to DAP-K.
