The Kiambu senatorial contest has narrowed to a two horse race between the incumbent Kimani Wamatangi and Ngewa civic ward representative Karungo Thangwa following the recent exit of former Limuru MP George Nyanja.
Nyanja who said that he had stepped down in honour of his late father Njau Nyanja threw his weight behind the Ngewa MCA with pundits saying that he took the move after realizing that his chances of winning were minimal.
Wamatangi downplayed Nyanja’s exit and backing of his main opponent terming the same as inconsequential adding that he would overwhelmingly retain his seat with his track record speaking for himself.
The senator gave a chronological list of his achievements chief among them being sponsoring the Micro & Small Enterprises Amendment Bill that empowers small traders in the country.
He said that he also sponsored the Assumption of Office of Governors Bill that ensures a smooth transition without any loss of public assets or finances.
The senator who is accused by his opponents as being unavailable on the ground and one who uses short message services to reach his supporters noted that went to court and rooted for the Amendment of the the Formula used by the Commission on Revenue Allocation (CRA) to allocate money to counties and following this move, Kiambu County received an extra KSh1.2 billion.
