Kenya in troubled waters in ongoing African Club Championships

Results just went to show how a big mountain it is so that strides are made in continental hockey

It is tough going for Kenyan teams in the 2025 edition of the Africa Cup for Club Championships ongoing in Ismailia, Egypt with a lot of learning along the way.

Monday results just went to show how a big mountain it is so that strides are made in continental hockey. All of Kenyan teams fell with better results in the coming days anticipated in the Championship that runs from January 30-February 7, 2025.

In the Men’s plays; Kenya’s Sikh Union lost 03-07 against Aircraft Factory Hockey Club of Egypt. Not only was this defeat demoralizing, but also the chances lost for the Kenyan outfit was worrying. However, on a good note they stand second in Pool B with six points from three matches. In their game last week against fellow Kenyan team USIU-Africa, the Sikhs won 2-0. The University side is now bottom on the standings in the same pool.

In Pool A, another Kenyan side Western Jaguars suffered a humiliating 6-0 humbling form Port Fouad SC. This was a disappointing result on paper going by the fact that Jaguars under Coach Mike Malungu were runners-up in the competition. With three pool matches played, the Jaguars side is third placed and has to stay alive to make the cut.

Meanwhile in the Women’s division, Kenya’s USIU-A look poised to go through and is currently second on the log in Pool B with six points off three matches. This is despite Smouha winning 1-0 in the tightly contested encounter yesterday. Another Kenyan team Mombasa Sports Club is third on the table with three points in three matches.
