I turned down Sh2 billion offered by Ruto to have me resign, former DP Gachagua now claims

Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua now sensationally claims that President William Ruto tried bribing him with Sh2 billion to resign as the DP last year.
Gachagua claimed this during a joint Luhya vernacular broadcasting radio station interview at his Karen residence in Nairobi.
He claimed that they fell out with Ruto for being outspoken over issues affecting Kenyans.
Gachagua also claimed that every MP was given Sh500,000 while Senators received Sh10 million each to support an impeachment motion against him.
“The President told me to resign so that he can give me Sh2 billion so that I can go on with my business and have security. He told me to quit so that I could vie in the future. However, I asked myself how the President could be concerned about my future yet he wanted me to quit,” he stated.
The former DP claimed that even some members of parliament allied to him wanted him to vie in the 2027 General Election but he rejected their suggestions.
He criticized President Ruto over insincerity in the increasing cases of abduction and killings mocking him over his involvement in trying to bring peace in the DRC.
“How can you advocate for peace in the Democratic Republic of Congo while our youth are being abducted here at home?” Gachagua posed.
He condemned the recent abduction of five chiefs in Mandera, highlighting that the incidents have become alarmingly common.
Further, Gachagua criticised certain government initiatives including the Affordable Housing project, the heavy taxation burdens on Kenyans, and certain policies introduced by Ruto’s economic advisors adding that they do not reflect the needs of the Kenyan populace.
The former DP went ahead and shared documents revealing that they (UDA) had agreed in 2022 to form a shareholding government with Musalia Mudavadi’s Amani National Congress (ANC) and Moses Wetangula’s Ford Kenya but the region ended up being shortchanged.
His interview came barely a week after Ruto completed a six-day development tour in the Western region, where he launched scathing attacks against Gachagua for allegedly being tribal, corrupt, and incompetent.
Despite the present concerns on whether he can vie for any political seat in the future, Gachagua said that that is not his worry at the moment.
“People think that I love myself too much…it is not a must for me to vie for any political seat in this country,” Gachagua said.
According to political analysts, the interview was a calculated move to deny any political gains that Ruto could have made in his Western tour.
