KeNHA announces closure of Thika Road at Kihunguro section

The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) has issued a notice on traffic disruption along the Thika Super Highway at Kihunguro in Ruiru between tomorrow and next Monday.

KeNHA stated that the move will allow for maintenance of the road at the section.

“The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA would like to inform the public of a temporary traffic disruption following the closure of a section of the Thika Super Highway (S1) road at Kihunguro from Friday to Monday. This is to allow Highway Maintenance along the section,” KeNHA Director General Kung’u Ndung’u stated in the notice.

The Highways authority advised motorists using the highway to follow the traffic management plan, obey the road signs, and cooperate with the traffic police officers at the site.

The notice by KeNHA comes after last weekend, when motorists got stuck in a traffic snarl-up after the same section of the road was closed.

For a better part of last Sunday, the Super Highway was closed around the Ruiru area, with motorists being redirected to use the Membley exit.

KeNHA was re-carpeting the highway at the Kihunguro area, as the speed bumps around the area were also removed.

There have been reports that the bumps have been a cause of reckless crossing by pedestrians, causing traffic snarl-ups.

The removal was, however, welcomed even as KeNHA was blamed for not making a prior alert to motorists over the scheduled works.
