Kabras RFC fetes legendary players as Kenya Cup victory celebrations continue
he team joins Impala, Nondescripts and KCB as the only four teams to win four consecutive Kenya cup titles

Five players have been instrumental in Kabras RFC stellar season in the Kenya Cup and just shortly after clinching their fourth consecutive Kenya Cup title at the weekend; they got feted for long service.
Captain George Nyambua, national team pair of Brian Tanga and Jone Kubo alongside Brian Juma and Asuman Mugerwa. All five have been with the club for 12 years and save for one (Brian Juma) who has been with the organization for longer. Incidentally, he missed out on the current campaign due to work commitments. The quarter of Nyambua, Juma, Tanga and Kubu were key members of the historic 2016 squad that delivered Kabras its first Kenya Cup title.
In the finals played Saturday at Kakamega’s ASK Showground in the Rai Derby, Menengai Oilers almost pulled a masterstroke but fell just short in the 27-26 Kabras win. The team joins Impala, Nondescripts and KCB as the only four teams to win four consecutive Kenya cup titles. This was also a great achievement for Captain Nyambua who was playing in his 10th consecutive final with the western giants keeping the trophy at their backyard in the Forest.
Oilers based at the “Refinery” for all their efforts just could not bulldoze their way through and has been the team of the season. The 2025 Eric Shirley Shield winners have a date with destiny as they plan revenge in the forthcoming Enterprise Cup finals (April 26th) against their siblings Kabras Sugar once again.
Going head to head in close battles against the top two teams by a mile over the years in the shape of Kabras RFC and KCB RFC has made everyone take notice and it is all thanks to Head Coach Gibson Weru who has revolutionised not only the brand of rugby in the Nakuru based outfit, but also built new stars.
Meanwhile with the Kenya Secondary Schools Sports Association (KSSSA) Term 1 Games coming to a close in Mombasa, a new winner in the Rugby 15s was declared. Vihiga High School from the western region defeated Kisii High School 14-06 in an epic finale at the Nationals to earn the big title. Both teams qualify for the upcoming East Africa School Games.
However for enterprising Kisii School, it is still a frustrating run as the national title still remains elusive despite it seeming so close especially this year after reigning EASSSA (East Africa Secondary Schools Sports Association) and immediate former national Champions All-Saints High School of Embu County were beaten 12-3 in the semi-finals by the Gusii region school.
