In a press statement released by Janet Shako for Director Anti- Narcotics Unit says that the Directorate of Criminal Investigations working with other Multi- Agency players has heightened the war against transportation and sales of illicit drugs around the country. Over the last month, drugs worth millions of shillings have been recovered while being transported to various destinations and the individuals found transporting the said drugs have been arraigned.
“The Isiolo- Moyale route has however become a major transportation route but our hawkeyed agencies have put in place stringent measures that have led to interception of Bhang worth millions of shilling in the last one month.” She said.
She adds that, its worth nothing that the criminals who have been undertaking this illegal activity have been using various modes of concealment which range from use of water bowsers, fuel tankers, stuffing of drugs in fuel tankers, stuffing of drugs in fuel tanks, dashboards, spare wheels and most recently creating of of additional compartments under buses, lorries and other vehicles where drugs have been found stashed.
“Investigations have revealed that proceeds of this illegal business have a direct link with funding of terror activities within this region.” she says.
She continues stating that previously, piracy used to be a major source of funds for terror groups and since it was dismantled they have turned to drug trafficking to fund their illegal activities.
“The DCI, working with other multi agency players wishes to retire our commitment towards fighting this menance and ensure that our country will remain drug free.” she concludes.
