Indiza wins Mashariki Tour title in Great Rift

Veteran golfer Dismas Indiza of Mumias Golf Club briefly forgot his Magical Kenya Open tribulations by showing ultimate resilience at the 36-hole Capital A-Mashariki Classic Tour, held at the par-71 Great Rift Valley Lodge in Naivasha,finish with a commendable score of -1 to win a cash prize of Ksh 90,000.
On the first nine despite humid and windy conditions, the experienced Indiza played well overall, carding a 2-under 35, and followed up with a 3-under 36, culminating in a total score of 5-under 66. This performance helped him recover from an opening round of 4-over 75, bringing his total to 1-under (75, 66) with a final score of 141 on the board.
An elated, Indiza after his final round stated: “After a tough outing at Muthaiga, I took time to reflect on what went wrong. I am thrilled with this win on the Mashariki Tour. I wish we had more opportunities to allow us to build our consistency and elevate our game to compete at a higher level.”

A series of bogey shots culminated on him going beyond the par level score. For his troubles, he took home a cash token of Shs 75,000. Third place finisher in the tournament was CJ Wangai of Sigona Golf Club carding a total of +3(74).The current chairman of Professional Golfers of Kenya (PGK) took home a cash prize of Ksh 65,000.
Wangai said; “”Unfortunately, for those of us without ample tournament opportunities, only five events preceded the recent MKO. In contrast, most DP Tour players compete in at least 72 events a season, which significantly enhances their consistency and mental strength, crucial for adaptability and achieving winning scores.”
He called on corporations to step up and support local tournaments to help achieve this goal. The 32-event tour concept, initiated by Pro Jastas Madoya of Great Rift Valley Lodge (GRVL), aims to provide professional golfers with a much-needed playing platform in the absence of previous tours like the Savannah and Safari Tour.
Capital-A is set to collaborate with the Ufanisi Golf Classic, the organizing body. “As an organization, we will be exploring ways to partner with the Mashariki Classic Tour organizers for this promising initiative that has the potential to develop into a significant tour if backed properly,” remarked Norris Chege, Chairman of Capital-A Investment Bank.
