Homicide detectives probe murder of an officer, injuring of another by a drunk cop at Gigiri Police Station
Detectives attached to the Directorate of Criminal Investigation’s Homicide Bureau are holding a Police Constable for the murder of a colleague, injuring of another officer during a drinking spree at a police canteen yesterday.
The suspect, Limo Kipkosgey Nahashon attached to Parliament as part of the Close Quarter Protection security detail has since been arrested and disarmed pending pre-charge processing and subsequent arraignment.
According to preliminary police findings, the deceased officer, Eric Munga, was attached to the Runda Police Post while the injured officer, Philip Kae, who is currently fighting for his life at Aga Khan Hospital in Nairobi is attached to the Judiciary.
The deceased was shot on the side of his chest while the recuperating law enforcement agent sustained bullet wound on his lower abdomen.
The trigger happy cop is said to have been heavily intoxicated at the time of the shooting.
He was armed with his official Jericho pistol.
The deceased officer was pronounced dead on arrival at the Agha Khan hospital.
“His body has since been moved to the Kenyatta University Funeral Hope, awaiting an autopsy.” A source privy with the probe intimated.
According to witnesses, the officers were having food and drinks before the altercation broke out and the shooting happened.
The other officers scamped for safety before their colleagues came to disarm the assailant officer.
The officer is being held in custody pending further actions.
The police recovered a spent cartridge, the Jericho pistol loaded with 14 rounds of 9mm ammunition, which are being held as exhibits pending ballistic analysis.
They also recovered the suspect’s parliament access card from his wallet.
