Kiambu police accused of in-action in evicting Posta land grabbers despite plea by Postmaster General
The inertia by the National Police Service’s (NPS) Kiambu command comes more than a month after the Corporation formally notified the Kiambu County Police Command and the Kiambu County Commissioner’s offices respectively of the illegal structures erected on the Kiambu Post Office land and requested their removal
Police in Kiambu have been accused of failing to offer security over the eviction of individuals said to have encroached on land belonging to the Postal Corporation of Kenya (PCK) at the Kiambu Post Office.
The inertia by the National Police Service’s (NPS) Kiambu command comes more than a month after the Corporation formally notified the Kiambu County Police Command and the Kiambu County Commissioner’s offices respectively of the illegal structures erected on the Kiambu Post Office land and requested their removal.
The Postmaster General’s office has since written to the Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja informing him of the impasse. The letter was also copied to the National Police Service Commission (NPSC) and the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) Renson Igonga.
Postmaster General John Tunoi laments that despite these efforts by the county administration, unknown individuals have unlawfully re-encroached on the property by commencing construction of permanent structures including foundation excavation on the land.
“Despite reporting this development to the OCPD and the OCS Kiambu and requesting for assistance, the matter remains unresolved and encroachment persists, “As a state corporation, we rely on the National Police Service to uphold law and order, including the protection of property rights under Article 40 of the Constitution. We trust in your support to address this matter expeditiously,” wrote Tunoi.
The letter dated March 6, 2025 is also copied to the National Land Commission (NLC) and the Kiambu County Police Commander.
The Postmaster-General seeks security reinforcement in erecting a perimeter fence around the land which hosts the Kiambu Post Office and evicting illegal occupants from the property.
Earlier, on February 28, 2025, Kiambu Senior Deputy County Commissioner T. M Macharia had written to the Kiambu Sub County Police Commander asking his office to provide the security support requested by the Postal Corporation.
“The Postmaster-General has written to us on the above cited subject matter via letter Ref:DF:720/28/2/2025. The purpose of this letter is therefore to ask that you provide the security support requested,” wrote the DCC.
Reports indicate that two Members of the County Assembly (MCAs) are behind the move to illegally annex part of the Corporation’s land working in cahoots with other shadowy figures.
