FKF Premier League frontrunners harvest good results with title race still open

League leaders Police FC who were 3-1 winners over stuttering Muranga Seal are now on 45 points off 24 matches

The trio of Kenya Police FC, Tusker FC and Gor Mahia FC is leaving nothing to chance as the battle for the 2024/25 FKF Premier League title hits fever pitch.

All are angling for the prestigious opportunity to represent the country in the 2025/26 CAF Champions League.

Despite a few hiccups along the way lately, this weekend saw all the three teams secure convincing wins against Muranga Seal FC, Posta Rangers FC and Bandari FC respectively with three points only separating them at present.

League leaders Police FC who were 3-1 winners over stuttering Muranga Seal are now on 45 points off 24 matches. This was their first win in three matches and was therefore a morale booster to the law enforcers under Burundian tactician Etienne Ndayiragije who was beginning to get frustrated.

Among the top three teams, Police have conceded the least goals and also incidentally scored fewer with their goal difference today at +17. Going into the international break, Police know more goals are needed and dropping points will no longer be viable considering they are only a point ahead of second placed Tusker.

The Brewers under tutelage of Charles Okere, on their part, have collected 44 points in 24 matches. This past weekend, they battled to a 2-1 win at Machakos Stadium over struggling Posta under Coach Sammy Omollo.

Prior to this match, Tusker had gone an unprecedented five games without a win which had started to agitate the club fans and put pressure on the technical bench. With injuries to key personnel and the sudden misfiring of league top scorer Ryan Ogam, the chaos at the Ruaraka based club was slowly becoming evident.

However, with this win, the race back to contention is wide open plus the target and ambition for a 14th domestic silverware stays alive.

At the same time, K’Ogalo under Croatian coach Sinisa Mihic is coming good by the minute having posted a second consecutive win to push them to 42 points on the log albeit with a match in hand.

Gor Mahia, who have had a topsy turvy run in this campaign, are not only looking to defend their title but also to calm their expectant legion of fans that have not been happy. In the past five games, the 21 times league champions have picked 11 points out of a possible 15 points on offer.

With the 2-0 win over Bandari FC and return to action of club stalwarts Alpha Onyango and Austin Odhiambo, there is renewed hope and confidence internally that with 11 matches to go, K’Ogalo could still very well clinch the title once more.

Below par performances in some matches and questionable signings of foreign players have made the loud fans express their frustration with the club’s technical bench and by extension the management.
