FKF Premier League title fight down to the wire as top teams eye glory

League leaders Kenya Police FC returned to winning ways following a tight 2-1 win over stuttering KCB FC in seventh place

With six matches left to close the 2024/35 Football Kenya Federation (FKF)-Premier League, it is all or nothing as top teams battle it out for title honors with the campaigning heating up massively.

The top three sides in the standings are only separated by two points thus making the race even more exciting as all of them have 14 wins thus far. No team wants to take chances with the season nearing elapse. At the weekend, of the three leading pack, only Tusker FC unceremoniously dropped points against 2008 champions Mathare United in a 2-1 loss result Sunday at Dandora Stadium with Musa Masika on a brace for the slum-boys.

Even with that loss, the Brewers under Charles Okere are still very much in the hunt for their 14th title and are currently second in the log with a point difference from league leaders Kenya Police FC. Tusker has 51 points off 28 games played and with a goal differential off+11. With the steady return to fitness of joint top-scorer Ryan Ogam, perhaps the tide could shift. Next up for the Ruaraka-based Brewers is sixth placed AFC Leopards who saw off relegation threatened Bidco United FC 3-1 at the weekend.

Meanwhile, league leaders Kenya Police FC returned to winning ways following a tight 2-1 win over stuttering KCB FC in seventh place. The law enforcers under Burundian tactician Etienne Ndayiragije previously dropped five points in their last two games and needed this important victory to be back on track even though insiders suggest that the Police Technical bench is under huge pressure to deliver trophy which the government under the State Department of Interior Services has hugely invested for. For Kenya Police, who are on 52 points top of the log, all matches will be like finals and thus go in hungry next weekend against 12th placed Kariobangi Sharks at home.

On their part, defending champions Gor Mahia FC seemed to have put the demons away after a spate of bad results on the pitch and politics off it. Their convincing 4-0 win against 14th placed Mara Sugar on Sunday put paid their abilities to focus and go for a 22nd title. K’Ogalo under Croatian tactician Sinisa Mihic is on the spotlight with off-field distraction pitting the coaches affecting results and play.

The record league champions have a busy seven days coming up with a midweek Quarter finals clash against Kariobangi Sharks in the FKF Cup before Sunday’s decisive game against on-form Shabana FC in a league clash. With an apprehensive office and impatient fan base, all eyes will be on the finishing power of Gor Mahia who are still firmly in the chase for two cups. They are presently on 50 points off 28 games but will have to keep a solid winning mo0mentum to come good at season end.
