The Ministry of Education is set to recruit 1000 fresh graduates under the National Leadership Development Programme for newly graduated students.
This will be an expansion from 150 students Kenyan university graduate aged 22-35, who joined the programme at its first inception in 2014.
The graduates will serve in 20 Counties from the original six Counties, the National Coordinator of the Programme, codenamed G-United, Mr. Harrison Muriuki has said.
He said this when he spoke to head teachers and other stakeholders who are involved in the management of the Programme at grassroots levels at Baharini Primary School in Kilifi County yesterday.
He said the programme aimed at promoting national cohesion, strengthen and support primary education outcomes and equip them with essential job and life skills that enhance their employability.
Some of the volunteer graduates already on the programme in its second edition say the programme had broadened their worldview and come to appreciate the cultural sophistication of other communities.
Evan Ng’eno a volunteer in Kilifi, but who hails from Uasin Gishu said that he had learned different cultures and was also happy that he had helped improve the reading capabilities of class tow pupils who had serious difficulties with reading.
The head teacher of Baharini Primary School in Kilifi hailed the programme saying the volunteers had helped motivate pupils with reading difficulties to start reading.
The Government works jointly with Evidence Action, which provides technical support, to ensure the programme secedes.
