Dupoto Settlement Scheme members deny forceful eviction, say they were paid for their land
They accused a lawyer they dropped from deal of leading those claiming they were not compensated

Dupoto Settlement Scheme leaders have refuted claims that some members were not compensated after their land in the Nairobi South C was sold to Kenya Railways.
They stated that all the six hundred members of the scheme were paid and that the faction complaining was led by their former lawyer who they dropped.
“We are the owners of the land sold under the Dupoto settlement scheme and it was sold properly with all the members receiving the compensation. The land had the proper documents from the National Lands Commission before the sale,” the Dupoto Settlement Scheme Chairman Likam Ole Kiambu stated.
The members present during the address to the press said they all consented to the sale of the piece of land in 2023 after proper documents were provided by NLC.
They added that the process was involuntary without coercion or threats as alleged.
Ole Kiambu stated that the accusations by lawyer Thomas Letangule’s faction are baseless and fabricated insisting that Dupoto members can attest to what transpired since 2007 when they started looking for the documents of the parcel.
Dupoto Secretary John Karu said the members agreed to sell the land because the population was huge and they wanted everyone to benefit from their resettlement elsewhere of their choice.
“No one was forced or illegally evicted from the land. We willingly sold it to KRC through the consent of members on a willing buyer, willing seller basis. We consulted widely with the area leadership- Abbas Khalif (Arear MCA) and Phelix Odiwour alias Jalang’o (Area MP),” he explained.
The leaders who were present confirmed that the members of the scheme were paid without any conflicts.
They accused the Letangule-led faction of false accusations.
“The leaders and members here are the legal owners. If there is any other person claiming to be part of Dupoto, we do not know them because all the members were paid on their accounts which can be confirmed. These are the legitimate owners of the parcel sold,” Langa’ta Member of Parliament Phelix Odiwour stated.
“They sold the land to Kenya Railways and all members were compensated. As their area leader I supervised and six hundred people were paid from 2023 to date. We are here to confirm that those paid are the members of Dupoto,” South C Member of county Assembly Abbas Khalif added.
Their statement comes after Thomas Letangule who is claimed to have been representing the scheme before called for investigations into how the Sh2.7 billion paid by Kenya Railways was paid to the squatters.
He alleged that there are members who were not paid neither were they consulted before the sale of the parcel.
