DPP seeks to strengthen corruption charges against Shollei

Director of Public Prosecutions today asked a Nairobi court to be allowed to amend corruption charges against former chief registrar Gladys Shollei and seven others .

Shollei and the seven others are facing corruption charges over per-fabrication of Mavoko law courts in which the judiciary is estimated to have lost Sh 150 million.

The DPP through his assistant Jacob Nderitu urged trial magistrate Liz Gicheha to allow prosecution to amend some particulars in the eight counts facing Shollei and seven others.

But the defence led by Paul Ng’arwa who is representing Shollei strongly opposed the prosecution bid to amend the charge sheet, saying the accused persons will suffer prejudice.
He said that the prosecution attempt is a way of trying to reopen the case which has already commenced with six witnesses giving their testimony.

Prosecution witness Bridget Chepkemoi who is a former administrator  at the office of chief registrar during Shollei’s term informed trial magistrate Liz Gicheha that none of the accused persons was part of the evaluation committee where Timsales Ltd and Economic Housing Group Ltd were taken to the next stage of financial evaluation.
