CS Alice Wahome warns contractor over South B market construction delay
She emphasised the importance of timely project delivery, warning that delays would not be tolerated promising to ensure the South B market project is completed on time to support the bottom-up agenda by President William Ruto.

Contractors involved in market construction projects have been urged to adhere to set deadlines with Land, Public Works, Housing and Urban Development Cabinet Secretary Alice Wahome issuing a stern warning to the South B market contractor to complete the project within the next 12 months.
Speaking during the groundbreaking ceremony for the market’s construction, Wahome emphasised the importance of timely project delivery, warning that delays would not be tolerated.
Wahome promised to ensure the market project was completed in time to support the bottom-up agenda by President William Ruto.
“Sometimes it is not the government to blame for the delay of projects. Sometimes contractors are given work and go against the set contracts leaving the blame on the government,” She stated
“We shall take care of this to ensure that we do not encounter any delays so that we can ensure traders get their stalls and support the bottom-up agenda by the Kenya Kwanza government,” She added.
Nairobi South member of the County Assembly Waithera Chege echoed the CS’ sentiments, urging her to ensure the contractor does not leave the site until the work is completed.
Waithera applauded the ministry for ensuring the land was repossessed from grabbers and the market construction set to begin
“The construction of the market has to proceed because we cannot allow senior government officers to fight for public land meant for market construction. We ask that the contractor strictly does the work within the stipulated time,” she said.
The legislator called on the county government to avoid corrupt dealings in the collection of data and ensure that only people in her ward benefit from it.
“The county officers taking data of people who will be allocated stalls should include only people from South B publicly.”
South B market is among the ten markets to be constructed by the National government for Nairobi County.
It is expected to serve a total of between nine hundred and one thousand traders.
The modern market will host a day-care centre, which allow new mothers to tag along with their toddlers to the market.
It will also cater to the youth who will have an entire room that will host the ICT Centre from where youth are expected to engage in online business in the national and international marketplace.
Other markets to be built by the National Government through Wahome’s ministry in Nairobi are Jogoo Road Market, Maji Mazuri in Kasarani, and another one in Ruai.
