Co-op Bank advises customers to use alternative branches after Githurai, Dagoretti Market outlets vandalised
The lender reassured the public that there were no injuries reported among staff or customers, and that only a minimal cash loss occurred from one of the affected ATMs
Co-op Bank customers at its Githurai and Dagoretti Market branches have been advised to use alternative outlets after they were vandalised during yesterday’s protests in Nairobi.
In a statement, the bank revealed that branches were the only ones affected during the Gen Z anniversary demos, but repairs are underway.
“Co-op Bank notes that two of our branches in Githurai and Dagoretti market were affected during the demonstrations yesterday. We advise that there were no injuries to any of our customers or staff, with minimal cash loss from one of the ATMs,” the bank added.
It said operations shall resume in the two branches in the coming few days.
“Repairs have commenced immediately, and the branches will be fully operational in the next few days. In the meantime, customers in the two branches are requested to access our services, as usual, at the nearest Co-op Bank branch,” the statement said.
The two branches of the lender were broken into yesterday as youths in Nairobi and other 26 counties took went the streets to protest, marking the first anniversary of protests Gen Zs, which resulted in the death of over 60 youths.
Tough the goons are said to have vandalised ATM machines, the bank assured the public that there were no injuries reported among staff or customers, and that only a minimal cash loss occurred from one of the affected ATMs.
