Civil Division registry in Milimani Court closed for 14 days over Covid-19 cases
The Civil Division registry of the High Court in Milimani has been closed for 14 days starting today after 2 staff members tested positive for Covid-19.
Acting Chief Justice Philomena Mwilu said another two members of staff have exhibited indicative symptoms and are isolating and under quarantine pursuant to the Ministry of Health Covid-19 protocols.
“The registry at the Civil Division of the High Court is a very busy registry with a high volume of file movement and extensive interactions between staff, as well as between staff and our clients and court users. There is considerable probability that there have been interactions with the affected personnel and justifiable apprehension as to the potential for exposure and the spread of the virus,” she said.
Mwilu said the temporarily closure will curb further spread of the virus among the staff and Court users.
“The Presiding Judge of the Civil Division held urgent consultations with the Civil Division Bar-Bench Committee and their Balanced Scales of Justice Ensure Transformation recommendations as communicated to my office were to temporarily close the registry with immediate effect,” she added.
“Our key imperative in the circumstances remains the health and safety of all our judges, judicial officers and Judiciary staff, court users and their families whilst, to the greatest extent possible, mitigating the effects of such closures on the justice delivery through, amongst others, the use of digital solutions,” She said.
