Over 45 coaches attend elite FIVB Level 1 coaching course
The course equips coaches with modern strategies, technical knowledge, and leadership skills vital for the sport’s growth
The FIVB Level 1 Coaching Course entered its second day at Summerdale Inn Hotel and Nyayo Stadium with engaging practical sessions. Over 45 participants from Kenya, Uganda, and two from Asia joined the course to develop their coaching expertise.
Led by renowned instructors Shilla Omuruwe (Uganda), Catherine Mabwi, Kenya Volleyball Federation Deputy President Paul Bitok, and course director Mr Cheda, the programme is delivering invaluable training. Coaches are embracing new techniques, refining their roles, and gaining knowledge on teaching beginners.
Day two culminated in dynamic gym practicals, led by Omuruwe and Bitok, where coaches skillfully tackled real-time challenges requiring sharp focus and concentration. Adding a touch of camaraderie, all participants received T-shirts courtesy of the Maluki team, in honour of the NOCK President aspirant’s vision, “New Dawn, Fresh NOCK.”
The FIVB Level 1 Coaching Course currently underway has brought together 48 vibrant and ambitious volleyball coaches for a transformative learning experience.
The course equips coaches with modern strategies, technical knowledge, and leadership skills vital for the sport’s growth.
With the dedicated support of physiotherapists Antonette Akhabonje Litiema and Esau Otieno, the programme also emphasises the importance of athlete health and injury prevention.
Omuriwe, in her address, said: “We must approach this course with open minds and a spirit of curiosity.”
“Coaching is not a destination it’s a journey. What you gain here will not only shape you and your teams but will also ripple out to uplift the broader volleyball community in Kenya and beyond.”
The week-long coaching program brings together aspiring and current volleyball coaches from across the country, all eager to enhance their skills and contribute to the sport’s development at every level.
Officials from Kenya Volleyball Federation, who graced the training that runs for a week, emphasised the the importance of coaching development as a pillar of sports excellence.
