Nurses on strike will not resume duty until all their demands are addressed by the county government, the Kenya National Union of Nurses Busia branch chairman Dr Isaiah Omondi has said.
While addressing the press at KNUN Busia county office, Dr Omondi said health sector in the county is dying due to an acute shortage of nurses being experienced in all public health facilities.
“Nurses in Busia County will not resume duty even if the CBA is signed by the Council of Governors because the county government has not addressed our plight,” said Dr Omondi.
The branch chairman said other issues that are yet to be addressed by the county government include promotion of nurses, employment of nurses and poor working conditions.
The Busia County Chief Executive Committee member in charge of Health Dr Maurice Siminyu appealed to the nurses to resume duty as they wait for the final word about their demands.
He said the strike could not be resolved because the Salaries and Remuneration commission said the National Treasury did not have funds to pay nurses.
