Acting CJ Philomena Mwilu on the spotlight over abuse of recruitment process of JSC representative to SRC
The Judicial Service Commission (JSC) under the chairmanship of Acting Chief Justice Philomena Mwilu is on the spotlight over blatant abuse of recruitment process of JSC representative to the Salary and Remuneration Commission (SRC).
Yesterday, JSC advertised the post of JSC representative to SRC despite having advertised the same position in January 2018 where six candidates were shortlisted and interviewed July 19, 2018.
Insiders contend the move is a wider ploy to short sabotage the already complete process to create avenue of nominating a “stooge” to advance partisan interests.
“This is not only unfair but also abuse of the process. It is very unfair for JSC to advertise the post after making the applicants undergo such grueling process. JSC should pick its nominee to SRC from the merit list of July 19th interviews.” Our source intimated.
The initial interview date was set for May 21, 2018 but was pushed forward.
Among those interviewed were three males and three females respectively.
They include; Manani Jacqueline Akinyi Okeyo, Jane Ruguru Irambu, Naituli Joseph Gitile, Gachegu Bernice Wanjiku, Dr. Joe Muriithi Muriuki and Dr. Hilary Humphrey Patroba Odhiambo.
While taking over from retired Chief Justice David Maraga, Mwilu promised to uphold reforms initiated her predecessor.
In her inaugural speech, Justice Mwilu promised to forge ahead with reforms towards safeguarding independence of the Judiciary.
“For whatever period it will please God for me to serve as CJ we will build on your legacy,” she told Justice Maraga, praising him for exemplary leadership.
“Yours has been a life of service and a professional and personal example characterised by integrity, fidelity to the rule of law and, most importantly, obedience to God,” she said.
“I have gained immensely from working with you, [including] encouragement in moments of weakness. As President of our court, you led us with knowledge.”
Currently, members of JSC are; Justice Mwilu, Justice Mohamed Warsame, Mercy Mwara Deche, Commissioner and advocate of the High Court, Partrick Gichohi, Public Service Commission representative, Prof. Olive Mwihaki Mugenda; Public representative
Attorney General Kihara Kariuki, Felix Kiptarus; Public Representative, Macharia Njeru and Justice David Majanja.
