The IEBC has launched voter registration of prisoners at Isiolo GK prison aiming to give them a chance to elect a presidential candidate of their choice.
While addressing the media at the prison offices, the officer in charge of the Isiolo prison Mr. Hassan Ibrahim said the prisoners were very happy as they were given the chance for the first time.
Mr. Hassan added that the number of those who will be listed as voters at the prison will be determined by ownership of national identity cards but only very few convicted prisoners by Friday last week were ready for the exercise.
He added that there were only ten convicted prisoners who knew that they would be in prison during the Election Day. He however added that there were nineteen remandees whose cases are yet to be determined.
The constituency election coordinator for Isiolo north Wario Ibrahim said they had conducted voter registration to the prisoners and therefore they were well informed.
He said most of the inmates had already registered as voters in the past and now the IEBC officers will be helping them transfer their votes to the prison voting station, but those who were never registered could be registered for the first time. He said they were conducting the exercise to the willing persons as no one will be forced to vote.
