The United States Agency for International Development (USAID)-funded Aphia Plus has donated Sh100 million medical equipment to Kitui county referral hospital.
The equipment including maternity beds, cabinets, cryotherapy machines, tables, chairs, cylinders and gas, were received by Governor Charity Kaluki Ngilu.
Aphia Plus Kitui County Programmes Coordinator Patience Ziro handed over the facilities to the county government on behalf of the organization.
Ziro said the the county referral hospital and Mwingi level four hospital will benefit from the maternity beds along with the cryotherapy machines for the treatment of cancerous diseases.
Ziro said with a funding from United States Agency for International Development (USAID), Aphia Plus will continue supporting the health of the mothers, children who are vulnerable to many diseases.
” We have supported training of the county’s community health workers for quality health services in the county in additional to supporting 12,000 orphans and vulnerable children, ” said Ziro.
She said plans are underway to provide the county with a satellite blood unit which is lacking forcing the sick to get the services from Machakos and Embu.
