There was drama in Gilgil town after motocycle operators blocked part of the Nairobi-Nakuru highway over increased cases of killings targeting them.
Carrying twigs and placards, the more than 1000 operators said they have off late been a target by thugs who kill and steal from them.
This came as a middle aged boda boda operator was hacked to death by thugs who had posed as customers.
According to the group’s chairman Peter Onyango, the victim had been hired to ferry two young men to a remote village in the area when they turned against him.
Onyango said the thugs stole cash from him but did not get away with the motocycle following a confrontation between then and the deceased.
“He was taking the two to Nagum vilage about 17 kilometers from Gilgil and when he was ordered to stop, a fight ensued although they overpowered and killed him”.
He said the victim identified as Benson Mwaniki sustained serious head and chest injuries inflicted by a blunt object adding that this was not the first time such incidents had happened.
