738 police officers promoted, NPSC announces

The National Police Service Commission (NPSC) has announced the promotion of 738 police officers following a meeting with the National Police Service.

Confirming the promotions, NPSC Chairperson Eliud Kinuthia said the promotions were based on merit and are in line with the legal requirements within the service.

“According to Article 246 (a), the Commission determined promotions of Seven Hundred and Thirty-Eight (738) Police Officers distributed in Kenya Police Service, Administration Police Service and the Directorate of Criminal Investigations,” Kinuthia said in a statement.

The promotions span the Kenya Police Officers, Administration Police, and the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI).

The review by NPS indicates that 14 officers have been promoted to the rank of Senior Assistant Inspector General of Police (SAIG) while 51 officers have been promoted to the Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG) role and 135 officers to Commissioner of Police (CP).

277 officers were promoted to Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), while 261 officers advanced to the rank of Superintendent of Police (SP).

Kinuthia said the promotion was competitive and transparent as they took into account the regional, ethnic, and gender balance as per Articles 232 and 10 of the Constitution.

Fifty Civilian staff of the National Police Service have also been promoted in the announced promotions by NPSC.

The NPSC chairperson emphasized that the promotions were aimed at strengthening the service while ensuring fairness in career progression.

The promotions have been gazetted, and they take effect immediately.

The promotion interviews were conducted in October last year, with at least 183 officers who had completed the Higher Training Course and Senior Training Course taking part.
