The Kenya Urban Roads Authority (KURA) has discounted findings by the Kenya National Audit Office headed by Auditor General Nancy Gathungu on the alleged unaccounted Sh2.7billion Roads Maintainance Levy Fund (RMLF).
Through a quick dispatch to newsrooms, KURA that is currently headed by Director General Engineer Silas Kinoti clarified that no money was lost.
KURA’s response comes following recent revelations by the Auditor General’s report that the authority couldn’t account for Sh2.7billion.
Through a statement, the authority said the Auditor General did not cite any misappropriation of funds as all the RMLF funds were fully accounted for both in the Consolidated Financial statements and the RMLF financial statements.
“Following the audit, the Auditor General issued a qualified audit opinion on the RMLF financial statements citing lack of a separate bank account as the basis of qualification. However, the report did not cite any misappropriation of funds as all the RMLF funds were fully accounted for both in the consolidated financial statements and the RMLF Financial statements.” The statement read in part.
“We note with concern that this information is not factual and has been taken out of context.” KURA said.
They added that the Auditor General’s office undertook an audit of the Road Maintainance Levy Fund, for the year ended on June 30, 2021 comprising the revenues and expenditure as well as assets and liabilities of the fund.
“Road Maintenance Levy Fund is a subset of the Authority’s Consolidated Financial statements as the authority manages other funds from various other sources including exchequer and development partners, “the report reads.
In her report, Gathungu regretted that KURA did not have a separate account for this money as the funds were banked in the authority’s main bank account.
