Expelled Kenya Africa National Union (KANU) secretary General Nick Salat has officially resigned from the party.
He wrote to the party and the Office of the Registrar of Political Parties (ORPP), saying his resignation takes effect today, February 17.
This comes after the party’s National Executive Council (NEC) kicked him out as the party’s secretary general through a unanimous decision.
“It is in my position that my purported dismissal from the position of secretary-general as communicated through the press was unlawful and against the rules of natural justice. However, and pursuant to section 14 of the Political Parties Act, I hereby with heavy heart but with a clear conscience, tender my resignation from the Kanu party effective the date specified hereunder,” he said in his letter.
“Take notice, therefore, that I, Nicholas Salat, have resigned from the Kanu party and therefore disassociate myself with the party except in situations where the law permits after this notice.”
In a meeting chaired by the party’s chairperson Gideon Moi in Mombasa, the party resulted to kick out Salat due to misconduct.
A month after his dismissal, Salat ditched the Azimio One Kenya coalition party, which is the umbrella under which KANU is affiliated, in support of President William Ruto’s Kenya Kwanza alliance.
