Foreign Affairs Cabinet Secretary has denied reports that the country is planning to set up an embassy in Somaliland’s capital – Hargeisa.
He made the clarification yesterday following reports from sections of the media that the country had plans to open six new foreign missions, with Hargeisa being among them.
“I wish to clarify that Kenya does not have any plans to set up an embassy in Hargeisa, as has been erroneously reported in some established and social media,” he stated.
Kenya created a Liaison office in Somaliland, a breakaway territory of Somalia and had 4 officers deployed.
The opening of new missions is part of the reorganisation of President William Ruto’s government following an Executive Order issued on January 9.
