President William Ruto will from Thursday this week chair a four-days cabinet retreat bringing together all Cabinet Secretaries, Principal Secretaries, Heads of State Agencies and Government Departments among other senior government officials at the Sagana State Lodge in Nyeri county.
The skyrocketing cost of living, rising insecurity and banditry attacks are expected to be among the key features of the agenda of the deliberations which aims focus on reviewing the steps Kenya Kwanza administration has made in 100 days since assumption of office and outline the priority agenda at the new year begins.
According to State House Spokesperson Hussein Mohammed, the retreat will be held from January 5, to January 8, 2023.
“President William Ruto to host a retreat featuring senior ranks of the Executive including Cabinet, Presidential Advisors and Principal Secretaries. The retreat between 5th-8th January will crystallize the implementation programme of the Administration’s Plan for the Year 2023.” He said.
The meeting will also spell out key areas of focus that will facilitate the realization of the Kenya Kwanza campaign pledges among the reducing the high cost of living.
In his New Year’s message to the country, the head of state indicated that the government was forced to scrap subsidies on maize flour, electricity and oil products saying such programmes would come with a huge burden to the taxpayer.
“Some subsidies on Unga, Fuel and Electricity were not informed by the science of our economy, but were informed by the expediency of the political moment that existed at that time,” he added.
The President said the government will going forward formulate economic policies that will enable the country to stop relying on debt.
“I’m very confident that we have now laid the foundation that will take our economy away from dependence on debt to dependence on revenues that are raised by tax payers in Kenya. We cannot continue running country on debt. The president said.
